Mr. Christian Schack is the Secretary General of the Joint Industry Project Green Ship of the Future and Head of Department of Hydro & Aero Dynamic Department at FORCE Technology. He has a Ph.D. in Naval Architecture from the Danish Technical University. He has a long carrier within the maritimeindustry where he has been working at a large Danish Shipyard, a Design company before joiningFORCE Technology in 2001. Main area of competences lies in overall evaluation in performance of ships and offshore structures, based upon numerical analysis, model testing and simulations. About Green Ship of the Future: Green Ship of the Future is a unique cooperation in which companies across the Danish maritime industry join forces in order to develop strategies to reduce CO2 by 30 %, SOX by 90 %, NOX by 90 % and particulate emissions from both existing ships and new buildings. Participation is open for all companies and organizations that meet the condition of being able to demonstrate a technology for reduction of emissions and is willing to co-operate with other partners within one of the four focus areas: machinery, propulsion, operation and logistics. Combining forces: Many elements are coming together in Green Ship of the Future: research, development, demonstration, innovation, education, training and dissemination of knowledge. Many fields of knowledge are involved such as: systems for recycling heat energy, optimization of the hull, propellers and rudders, optimization of the draft and speed for a given route and arrival time and monitoring the fouling of hulls and propellers. Engine technology is an especially essential factor for achieving the planned benefits. The Green Ship of the Future initiative was founded by the four leading Danish maritime companies Aalborg Industries, A.P. Møller-Maersk, MAN Diesel and Odense Steel Shipyard in recognition of the ecological responsibility nested in the maritime industry. Today, the group consists of more than 30 companies, universities and network partners all working on making shipping and shipbuilding more environmentally friendly. See more on www.Greenship.org. Green Ship of the Future did in 2010 receive the prestigious Sustainable Shipping Award sponsored by Sustainable Shipping. Sustainable Shipping is a leading organization dedicated to promoting the sustainable use of the Sea.
